  • a survey of different types of AI used in health research
  • a review of current standards and guidelines for the ethical review of AI-related research projects
  • an examination of AI ethics principles alongside the principles of research ethics, and the ways in which AI-related research projects exacerbate existing ethical concerns and introduce new risks

Dr Peter Douglas (PhD, MSt, BSc, BA(Hons), PGDipEd)

Dr Peter Douglas

Peter has a background in academic philosophy and biomedical ethics across several universities. Most recently, he was a lecturer with the Monash Bioethics Centre until the end of 2025 and remains an affiliate of the centre. During this time, he developed and co-ordinated masters courses in human research ethics, public health ethics, clinical ethics, and the responsible conduct of research, and also developed and co-ordinated the medical ethics program for Monash University's medical degree. He has served on a number of HRECs and clinical ethics committees, and is conducting pre-reviews of AI-related health research projects for Monash Health HRECs.

Peter became interested in the ethical and social implications of AI about a decade ago and completed a Master of Studies in Ethics and Society at the University of Cambridge in 2023. He is an IEEE CertifAIEd Authorized Assessor, has an AI & Algorithm Auditor Certification from BABL AI, and conducts socio-technical evaluations and audits of AI systems with Joellie AI.
